The Huntington Choral Society is a 75 to 100-voice community ensemble in Huntington, Long Island, NY. Our repertoire focuses on classical choral works ranging from the Baroque to pieces by living composers, with occasional concerts featuring Broadway or opera pieces. We typically present two major concerts each year with orchestra or keyboard. For example, last season we performed Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus with orchestra and Carmina Burana with two pianos and percussion. We also present an annual Messiah sing-along.
We rehearse Monday evenings at Huntington High School, which is the current venue for our concerts as well. Typically there are 15 two-hour rehearsals for each concert (Winter and Spring) with one dress rehearsal.
We are seeking a Music Director/Conductor to begin in the fall of 2018. Candidate should have experience preparing and conducting similar choral groups, knowledge of the classical choral repertory, a history of conducting major choral works with orchestra, and strong leadership and interpersonal skills. It is the responsibility of the Music Director, with the assistance of the HCS Music Committee, to select works to be performed. The Music Director is also responsible for identifying and engaging soloists and instrumentalists as needed and for auditioning potential new members of the chorus.
Compensation is competitive with comparable organizations, commensurate with applicant’s experience.
